Selima Q&A – Austin Cheetham
Welcome to the Selima Team Q&A! Meet a different member of our team each month; find out what they do at Selima and few fun facts. This month is Senior Software Developer – Austin Cheetham. Austin is originally from the Lake District, but after graduating from Sheffield’s Hallam University he decided to stay in the area and has been with us for two years now.
Can you tell us a little bit about your job?
As a developer its my job to take ideas and turn them into reality, making the best software I possibly can.
Most satisfying aspect of your job?
Turning concepts into reality, seeing them coming to life and actually being used by people.
Which colleagues do you work the most closely with and why?
I work closely with the development team but the more exciting part of my job is working with the design team and the MD on modules. We can spend hours having heated debates on the colour or the name of a simple button so the end user can easily use the system.
If you weren’t with Selima, what do you think you would be doing now?
I would be doing a similar role in another company or maybe running my own software business!
What is your greatest achievement to date?
I would have to say our rota / staff scheduling software. I’m incredibly proud that something I built plays such a huge role in hundreds of businesses.
What five things would you put in Room 101?
• Scary Films
• Middle lane drivers
What’s your motto in life?
If its average, it’s got nothing to do with me.
Matrix obviously! First time I watched that it blew my mind.
What is one thing about you that might surprise people?
I nearly ended up playing poker for a living but decided to become a developer instead as I wanted a career.
